A Grey Giveaway

EyesA few years ago, another mom at our girls’ preschool thought I was their grandmother.  It was a humbling moment to be sure.  When I called my husband to tell him I said, “Well, this guarantees that I won’t go grey for a long time.”

It’s one of the downfalls of being an  — ahem — older parent.  You try to look younger not to hide your age, but because you’re tired of being mistaken for your children’s grandparents.  The funny thing is it is a geographic issue to a certain extent.  If we had stayed in Oak Park, no one would have blinked at the two of us with a double-stroller.  Since we moved to the SW suburbs, we’re now the oldest of our girls’ friends parents.

My plan to stay young and dark haired hit a snag this weekend.  I looked in the mirror and saw a grey eyebrow hair.  It’s not in a place where I can casually remove it and be done with it.  This particular hair is right in the middle of my left brow.  If I remove it, it will be really noticeable.

Since finding the grey eyebrow, I keep wondering one thing.  How long can my hair be brown if my eyebrows are going grey?

my husband is 16 years older than I, and is regularly thought to be our boys grandfather. On more than one occassion people have thought my father was my boys father and that my husband was the grandfather. Talk about hitting the self confidence. But around here there seem to be a very wide variety of parental ages so maybe you’re right that it is a geographical thing.
