Black Friday Shopping-No Thank You

| November 22, 2010 | Comments (7)

Black-Friday-2010-DealsIn just a few short days the retail world will experience the craziest shopping day of the year.  Seasoned shoppers have been preparing by searching for leaked ads and circulars.  Seasoned techie shoppers don’t even need the circulars.  Yup, there’s an app for that!  Apps like Dealtaker, Black Friday and BF Deals will put all the info on your phone, and even let you create a mobile shopping list as you search for those must have items.

I can’t remember the last year I actually ventured out to do some shopping on Black Friday.  Every year the stores open earlier and earlier.  There are even Pre-Black Friday sales that start before you’ve had a chance to finish your slice of pumpkin pie.  Not to mention the crazy crowds that won’t think twice about resorting to a rush and grab method which can result in serious injuries.

No thank you!

I’ll pass on the madness.

While my husband heads off to work, thanks to a lousy union contract,  I prefer to spend my day off sleeping in.  If you can call 7 am sleeping in.  I’ll savor my hot coffee in a quiet house.  Just me and the canines.

I have a DVR full of shows I can catch up on, a neglected basket full of fabric that I can turn into Christmas crafts.  I’ll have time to do some blog hopping.  While I’m on the internet, I’ll look for some fun arts and craft projects that my grandson and I can make during the week.  Black Friday would definitely be the perfect day to head back to the gym, after eating eleventy billion calories the day before.

There’s plenty for me to do that doesn’t involve fighting the crowds on Black Friday.

Oh and as far as Christmas shopping, I’m done.  I did most of it weeks ago, online.  I took advantage of great sales, paid no shipping, and most importantly, saved what little bit of sanity I have left.

But by all means, don’t let me stop you from shopping on Black Friday if that’s your thing.

I like your routine. It’s more like a holiday than the crazy running around.
I’m so impressed that you’ve already bought all of your gifts!

Sorry your husband has to work. Bummer. I like your version of Black Friday.

I haven’t ever been out. sent hubby out one year for a great dvd video camera, which we never use. I did go last year to Walmart late in the evening and scored a cheap camera that had been stashed in the kids clothes and coats for the kids. I think I might go out again like that to Walmart for $7 jeans for the boys. But that’s it. I’m already done Christmas shopping.

  6. We don’t shop on Black Friday either. A big part of the reason is that we don’t give those kinds of gifts. Perhaps it’s worth it if you give a television as a Christmas present, but it’s not worth it for a discount on a toy.

I have nearly all my Christmas presents in-house already. I try to start shopping the sales right after Labor Day and be done before Thanksgiving. I find Christmas shopping is best when it’s done before Christmas.

One of our college-age babysitters also works at a store in Orland Square Mall. She said the mall is opening at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning for shopping. I’m sure people will be in line, but I’ll be sound asleep. It just gets earlier and earlier every year, doesn’t it?
