How I Ended Up With 13 Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies
This was the first year I decided to seek out Girl Scout cookies. You could most likely say it’s mostly due to the fact that I’m pregnant, but, in my Thin Minted defense, I vividly remember being a Girl Scout.
I emailed a few friends to see if they could hook me up with their pint-sized cookie suppliers. I received forwarded emails from parents, ordered cookies from each little girl, and before I knew it… I have thirteen boxes coming my way. Maybe I went a little overboard, but my intentions were really good. I remember how exciting a cookie order was so vividly, each of these girls should experience that too, right?
I remember the serious business of selling cookies, tracking the orders, delivering the boxes… I’d review my list of buyers on those fold out sign-up sheets over and over again. It’s a little girl’s first opportunity to feel like a businesswoman, at least I did. They taught me how to pre-sell something, place an order, and then deliver on it.
It may have cookies that taught me the basics of sales, but it was M&M’s that made me competitive. I don’t know if they even do this anymore, but when I was a Brownie we sold M&M’s. I came home with my two big boxes of M&M’s, a plain and a peanut, and hit the road. I sold door to door, to my whole family, and then convinced my dad to take my M&M’s to work. My dad worked for the family business, so I’m sure it was hard to say no to buying candy from the company owner’s granddaughter. He sold more M&M’s than we had and then more and more. I kept picking up boxes from my troop leader’s house. I did well on my own, but then my dad put me in the competitive Brownie world and I won first place for sales in our area. I chose an encyclopedia as my award. It was a big moment for me.
I learned a ton from my time in the Girl Scouts organization, but what I remember most vividly is the pride I felt when I won that encyclopedia. (Yes, with the help of my dad.) I never won again, because my dad never agreed to bring them back to the office, but I didn’t need to.
What started as a craving, became a walk down memory lane. And now I have the delicious reminders of all my hard work as a young girl that should last me for a months. I might even share a few boxes with my dad.

We have loads of girl scout cookies in the pantry too. First we have those we ordered from the girls’ Daisy Troop. Then the troop had a bunch of random boxes leftover. You have to order the cookies by the case, so there are always a few here and there that need a home. We bought them because no one else seemed to want them. Our troop leader was so grateful. What she doesn’t know is I’m going to take them to church the next time I’m the coffee hour hostess. I can share the calories!
One of my ex’s little sister was in scouts and his mom was the cookie mom…I ordered them by the case and would have them for the whole year. This year I bought just 6 boxes from my great niece.
I used to buy tons of girl scout cookies but I guess all the young ladies sellers I knew grew up!
I’m not complaining though, I’m fitting into my pants nicely right now and do not care to jinx it!
I bought 5 boxes to donate to the service men and women. My stretched to the max jeans thanked me.
I had 3 and they are GONE. 13 is a lot of money, girl! Way to support those little ones.
Anything for the kids, right?
