My Royal Hero

| September 15, 2011 | Comments (0)

Normally I’m not much of a royal watcher.  I read the occasional story about England’s royal family with the same interest I read about the weather.  I didn’t get up early to watch the recent wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, although I did watch the news clips.  Recently, though, I became a big fan of the Duchess of Cambridge (the former Kate Middleton) for a new fashion trend she sparked.  It turns out that the fashion experts are a buzz that the Duchess brought back pantyhose.  I,  for one,  am grateful.

I’ve previously written about how I’m a ghostly shade of pale.  My legs could double as reflective material in the dark. I rarely wear knee-length skirts because my blinding lack-of-color is a distraction.  More than once someone has looked at me in shorts and said, “Wow, you really are pale.” In my world, long skirts are the best fashion trend of late.

Until The Duchess of Cambridge brought back pantyhose, that is. Whatever you call them — pantyhose, tights, hosiery — I’m glad they are back.  It’s not that I missed yanking them up to my waist or worrying that I’d snag them before I left the house.  No,  I missed the small amount of coverage they provide my pale limbs.  I could use all the color I can get, even the lightest shade of nude pantyhose takes the glare off my legs and polishes my overall look.

I’ve read all the blogs that claimed bringing back pantyhose was like turning back the clock, taking women back to the dark ages.  The thing they seem to forget is that no one is forcing women to wear pantyhose. The Duchess wearing pantyhose simply puts them back in the rotation of fashion possibilities.   I am glad they are back.   I could use all the color I can get, even the lightest shade of nude pantyhose polishes my overall look for those times when blinding pale skin isn’t appropriate.
