Chicago Getaway: Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island

Mission Point Resort

To me, a family vacation is about escaping from my household routines and spending time with my family. It’s about spending time in the moment, not living on a schedule, and of course, eating way too much ice cream.

Before school started, we decided to take our boys to Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island (in Michigan). Mission Point Resort offered my family the ultimate vacation. It had everything we needed for 3 full days of family fun.

We were given one of the Family Suites with two separate bedrooms. This gave the kids a fun sense of freedom and it gave me some rest and relaxation when we were in our room.

After we checked out the room, we went swimming, explored the grounds, and then had dinner at The Bistro on the Greens. My husband and I enjoyed tapas while my kids happily ate sandwiches and fries.  We were on the island during Music Fest so we enjoyed live entertainment while we ate. We were provided a complementary meal, but one of the best parts about the resort is that kids get to eat free!

After dinner we enjoyed a round of golf and then walked into town for Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream.

The next day we enjoyed many of the family activities Mission Point Resort has to offer. We were able to squeeze the observation tower, bocce ball, biking, golfing, the arcade room, and the pool.

The bike ride around the island was one of my family’s highlight of the trip. Just a few minutes past the resort we were swallowed up by the natural beauty of the island. If you go to Mackinac Island, you must rent a bike (or bring your own) and leave the touristy downtown to experience the pure beauty of the island.

After all of the morning activities, we chilled out in the afternoon. Some of us napped, some swam, some golfed, some tried to fish, and some went to the arcade. I snuck away and quietly sat in one of the Adirondack chairs overlooking the water. It was tranquility at its best.

We were sad to leave Mission Point Resort. Although we were only there for 2 ½ days, they were long happy days filled with tons of summer memories.

When you start planning your summer vacation for 2012, I highly recommend Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.

We went to Mackinac Island this summer too! We stayed on the other end of the island at the Grand Hotel. It was a very “Eloise at the Plaza” kind of vacation for our daughters.

Mission Point is much more suited to a family with boys. I adore the chairs on the lawn near the water. I could stay there all day.
