Growing Veggies In The City
Our city family is taking advantage of all the summer sun by growing vegetables on pots! Yes, pots. We have a cemented backyard so pots are our only option. We are growing everything from Japanese Ichiban Eggplants to cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, mint, and even some spring lettuces. Today’s small harvest was Japanese Eggplants. Can’t wait to try my mother-in-law’s recipe of Chinese Stuffed Eggplants , or bring some over to my dad’s for his special Filipino dish called Pinakbet or maybe some Filipino Eggplant Omelette! Yum!
Besides enjoying the vegetables now, my kids and I had fun planting from the beginning. With some internet searching, pots, soil, and bought store vegetable seeds, we blindly went through the process and just hoped for the best. And wow! We can’t wait to do it all over again.

I love it! This is one of those things thats so important to me- i’m a terrible gardener, but it’s so important to me as a foodie dad to teach my kids that food doesn’t begin at a supermarket- it takes some work before that to get it there. Well done!
Thanks, Jonny! Teaching the kids on growing food is the best part of doing this. Maybe give it another try.
Your garden is gorgeous MJ! And I’m still jealous of your eggplants!
I was drooling at your garden! I wish I have that much space. Grow some eggplants next year!
good for you! We have a garden in our back yard too – the kiddos LOVE it! Green beans tonight for dinner from the garden, and potatoes too!
