Modern WomenThe Chicago Dancing Festival is one of my favorite summer programs. Chicago becomes the center of the dance universe when internationally-renown and local troupes converge on our stages to showcase ballet, modern and contemporary  dancers in the largest dance festival in the country. Best of all, tickets to attend these stellar performances are free.

The 9th Annual Chicago Dancing Festival takes place August 25-29 with performances at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park. Fan favorites like the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, The Joffrey Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will once again grace the festival.  For the first time, an entire evening is planned to celebrate “Modern Women,” featuring works created by female choreographers from across the U.S. In addition, a world premiere performance by the Chicago Human Rhythm Project will continue the Festival’s tradition of commissioning new works.

Here is the working list of artists and locations, as provided by the Chicago Dancing Festival. You’ll find the ticket release date and time with each listing. While the final program is subject to change, this will give you a pretty good idea of which companies are performing on which dates. All tickets are general admission, so seats are filled on a first come, first served basis.
