Chicago’s premiere family destination, The Shedd Aquarium, brings so many exciting activities all year-long! How fun to learn that Chicagoland moms can, right before the holiday, save the date for a few hour getaway! Thursday, November 17th at 6p.m. is Mom’s Night Out! Leave the kiddies at home as The Shedd hosts Penguin Hops Release Party.
Shedd Aquarium’s 2016 “Penguin Hops” is a limited-release harvest pale ale brewed by Revolution Brewing brew pub using Shedd’s homegrown hops! Revolutions Brew Pub 2323 N. Milwaukee and Revolution Tap Room 3340 N. Kedzie will serve Penguin Hops along with other participating area bars and restaurants.
Back in 2012, Shedd, not wanting to waste fragrant hop buds, got together with Revolution to brew their first batch of Penguin Hops and it became a popular, limited-edition brew! Learn all about Revolution’s Head Brewpub brewer Will Turner’s process and Penguin Hop’s namesake species the rockhopper penguin in a night full of live music, food and access to the Shedd Aquarium. $1 of each pint of Penguin Hops sold will benefit the Shedd’s conservation initiatives.
The hops were planted nearly a decade ago and are a part of Shedd Aquarium’s 40,000 square foot garden composed of natural flora and fauna. The hops provide natural shade and aesthetic to the exterior go the Aquarium where rescue dogs and birds of prey are typically found participating in enrichment programming with animal care staff.
