El Tapeo is a fun start to a Mother’s Day celebration

El Tapeo springWe were in the elevator heading up to the El Tapeo spring menu tasting when I saw the Spa Suites sign. After a long, crazy work day, it looked incredibly relaxing. I saw a different spa services sign on the way down from the restaurant and thought that a spa day combined with an El Tapeo meal would be a really nice Mother’s Day gift.

El Tapeo is located on the top floor of Le Méridien Chicago – Oakbrook Center. Award-winning Executive Chef Matthew Cappellini created a spring selection of small plates and main courses to share among family and friends with fresh, seasonal ingredient and locally grown produce. The spring spread included delicious Tapas such as Croquettas de Pollo: braised chicken fritters with tarragon mustard sauce and Ensalada de Remolachas prepared from sangria gel, baby beets, mixed greens, and orange thyme vinaigrette; a new Paella de Diablo with spicy chorizo, shrimp, chicken, peas, peppers, onions and spicy aioli. Everything we tried was delicious. We sat at a table for two and within a few minutes started talking to the table next to us. It’s the communal feeling that Tapas creates.

The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows on every side, allowing for expansive views of Oakbrook Center on one side and tree tops on other sides. El Tapeo has intimate window tables, comfortable seating in the lounge and a bar ready for sports viewing. We saw groups chatting within their own group and across tables with others. It was a fun tasting party.

It would be great to go to El Tapeo for Mother’s Day with a group. You could spend time there and head home knowing that you had a fun and tasty outing. Still, from it’s centralized location, El Tapeo offers a great launching spot for your Mother’s Day activities.

If you wanted to stay in one place, you could book spa services at Le Méridien Chicago – Oakbrook Center. There is a option for luxury spa suite retreats or individual services.

You could also head to the famous Drury Lane Oakbrook to see the musical Chicago.  For the first time in  30 years, the hit musical Chicago returns to the Chicagoland area. This show was the recipient of six Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy®. This razzle-dazzle musical, the #1 longest running American musical in Broadway history, features one Fosse showstopper after another.

Of course, the restaurant sits at the edge of the Oak Brook Center, so you could just walk over and shop in the department stores or the 160 specialty stores.

No matter how you decide to spend Mother’s Day, yo cannot go wrong by putting El Tapeo on the agenda.
