Mother’s Day entertainment offers something for every interest

LuziaAre you ready for Mother’s Day on May 14? The Chicago Moms is ready with ideas to inspire creative Mother’s Day celebrations. Today we’re starting with a round-up of Chicago-area productions with an eye towards special deals to honor Mom. After all, there’s no reason you can’t have fun and save money while you take Mom out for her special day.

The Chicago Sinfonietta’s final concert of the season, Rightness in the Rhythm, takes place twice, first at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, Friday, May 12 at 8 p.m., and then again at Symphony Center in Chicago, Monday,  May 15 at 7:30 p.m.  This concert features the world-renowned jazz virtuoso Marcus Roberts Trio who will perform an improvised version of Gershwin’s classic Rhapsody in Blue, making it unique every time its performed, among other ragtime and Broadway favorites. The Chicago Sinfonietta helps guests enjoy the performance with a digital guide describing interesting details about the music and artists. This performance celebrates 100 years of jazz and symphony, and tickets start at just $18.

Cirque Du Soleil is coming back to Chicago July 21 – September 3 under the big top in the United Center parking lot. The new show, LUZIA – A waking dream of Mexico, takes the audience through a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances. LUZIA takes audiences to an imaginary Mexico, smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production. You can purchase tickets for Mother’s Day at a 20% discount, with options including single seats, the family package and VIP tickets.

If a fun, musical romantic comedy is Mom’s desire, the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire has She Loves Me on stage. “She Loves Me is set in a 1930’s European parfumerie, where shop clerks Amalia and Georg, more often than not, don’t see eye to eye. After both respond to a “lonely hearts advertisement” in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters they exchange, but little do they know the anonymous pen pals they have both been falling for happen to be each other.” You can take advantage of  the theatre’s free dinner special Wednesday and Thursday evenings (based upon dining availability) to give Mom a completely relaxing evening. Both theatre tickets and the dinner special are available through the Marriott Theatre Box Office.

Odysseo by Cavalia has extended its stay at the White Big Top in the Soldier Field parking lot through May 21. The $30 million extravaganza  the world’s largest touring production, with a cast including 48 riders, dancers, aerialists, acrobats, stilt walkers and musicians, and 65 majestic horses taking the center stage, creates a magical world with something for everyone to enjoy. Aurora’s Paramount Theatre currently features Jesus Christ Superstar on its gorgeous stage. For Mom, the perfect gift might be the theatre’s bargain-priced Broadway Series subscription. Every four ticket subscription package is a buy two, get two deal. This means you only pay for two tickets while taking four people to each show. For the 2017-2018 season, shows scheduled are Million Dollar Quartet, Elf, Cabaret and Once.
