Lisa is a the lone female in the house she shares north of the city with her talented husband, adorable preschooler and toddler boys, and attention-craving rescue dog. She's been pregnant for about four years, expecting her third child in October 2012.

Admittedly not a mom pro yet, Lisa enjoys daily parenting blunders, works full time in fundraising, enjoys reading and cooking, focuses on healthy feeding, strives for green living, plans to start running again soon, and tries to maintain a social life. Northsiders Invade Brookfield Zoo

Northsiders Invade Brookfield Zoo

August 20, 2012 | Comments (3)

My dad grew up on the Southside and my mom grew up on the North Shore. They met in college, settled in the Northwest Suburbs (in what I imagine was a good compromise), and continued to move east over the years. Now they’re living on the North Shore, as is my family and one of my sisters and […]

A Farmer's Market in Chicago in February?

A Farmer’s Market in Chicago in February?

February 19, 2012 | Comments (0)

There are many things that make me question our choice to live in Chicago during the winter months. Obviously, the cold is at the top of the list, but lately I’m more likely to be found complaining about the lack of fresh in-season vegetables that are grown locally. And I miss having a Farmer’s Market. […]

It's My Fault My Dog Drives Me Crazy

It’s My Fault My Dog Drives Me Crazy

January 17, 2012 | Comments (5)

I love my dog. I really, really do. I just have to remind myself that I do. And, between us, I love the way things were with my dog before kids, because having a dog with a toddler and a baby isn’t ideal. We rescued Howie from Anti-Cruelty Society a year after we were married, […]

My Stork Vision

My Stork Vision

May 23, 2011 | Comments (0)

My mom was pregnant three times between 1978 and 1982. She had zero ultrasounds. It wasn’t that she was against ultrasounds, she just didn’t have the option. On the other hand, I’ve been pregnant twice since 2007 and can’t even count how many ultrasounds I’ve had. For everyone I know ultrasounds are a major part of […]

How I Ended Up With 13 Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies

How I Ended Up With 13 Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies

March 17, 2011 | Comments (5)

This was the first year I decided to seek out Girl Scout cookies. You could most likely say it’s mostly due to the fact that I’m pregnant, but, in my Thin Minted defense, I vividly remember being a Girl Scout. I emailed a few friends to see if they could hook me up with their pint-sized cookie suppliers. I received […]

Holiday Card Check Lists?

January 27, 2011 | Comments (1)

We may have wrapped and boxed all of the holiday decorations, but there is still a holiday issue that is kind of bugging me: Holiday cards. This year we received less cards than we normally do, not drastically less, but less all the same. Each year it seems to taper down. I figured that people are […]

Family-Friendly Party = Awesome New Year’s Eve

January 24, 2011 | Comments (2)

We attended our first “Family New Year’s Eve Party” this year. I was hesitant in the beginning. Our friend, a home brewer, was really excited about the family-friendly party Revolution Brewing Company planned and asked us to join them. Sure, it sounded fun, but I’ve become wary of parties at restaurants and bars. All too […]

How a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Reminded Me About Hunger

November 22, 2010 | Comments (1)

When my two year old son wakes up in the morning the first thing he wants is a cup of milk and an open-faced peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Some days it’s more out of habit than hunger. Half of it often goes uneaten or gets swiped by our dog, but we always make it. […]

Driving Home With Baby

September 14, 2010 | Comments (5)

“So, we were driving up Ontario to get onto the expressway and all of a sudden we heard a ton of honking. I kept turning around, wondering what was going on, thinking these people were crazy. Yeah, turns out they were honking at us. Anthony must have been driving like 20 miles per hour.” It […]

When Parents Lose Their Cool: People Are Watching

August 16, 2010 | Comments (5)

We were on our annual family get-away in Southwest Michigan, visiting the Children’s Museum in St. Joseph when a dad behind me in line chased his two year old son toward the stack of t-shirts for sale yelling, “No!” He caught the little guy before he even reached the display, grabbed an arm, and gave […]

Taste of Chicago

No Thanks, I Don’t Need to Taste

July 17, 2010 | Comments (3)

Wait, I missed the Taste this year?  Oooh, bummer. Yeah, that’s too bad (imagine my shoulders shrugged, hands up in the air, head cocked to the side). Ugh, man, maybe next year… Or not. You see, I missed the Taste of Chicago on purpose this year. There, I admit it.  Growing up the Taste was something my parents took us […]
